HomeFires BRAAI Model 1200 - free-standing
The 1200 model is only about 40 cm wider than the 800, but embodies the same relaxed South African style of barbecuing. Here, however, the firebox, also known as the embermaker, is in the centre. It was invented by the HomeFires at the time and the HomeFires braai system was developed around this Embermaker.
The charcoal is produced directly in the barbecue in the firebox (embermaker). The right and left cooking or grilling zones can be used for some preparations. The charcoal is ejected directly from the burning logs using a poker (charcoal maker) supplied and distributed under the grates. This allows you to bring the food to the desired cooking point with high or low heat. Sometimes the Dutch oven is used, or a rotating spit can be used with individual accessories.
The self-generated charcoal is distributed to the various cooking zones on the right and left. This means that various dishes, some of them menu-style, can be prepared together.
The drawers, which are pulled out directly under the embers, can be used for indirect cooking and simmering, for example. The drawers are also often used simply for keeping food warm. The HomeFires Braai 1200 has 2 drawers, which can of course also be used in different ways.
Another small but excellent detail is the swivelling hook on the side, which can be used to hang a Dutch oven (also known as a potje in South Africa) for side dishes, stews and much more.
